One thing is certain: Publix is unrivaled when it comes to cakes. Since 1957, our Publix bakeries have used our trademark recipe to make our cakes and buttercream frosting. The cake, in our opinion, is the major attraction for any special occasion, and our professional cake designers handcraft each cake to your preferences and party requirements. Our bakery has various customized options, including as fillings, icings, and cake flavors, so you’re sure to find precisely what you’re looking for. Check out all of the reasons why you should select Publix to prepare your next cake if you aren’t already convinced!
Making Your Cake Unique
With our personalized cake options, you may create a theme for your next celebration. To begin, pick from the following cake flavors: chocolate, vanilla, marble, strawberry, Superfetti, Black Forest, German chocolate, carrot, and red velvet.
Do you want to add some more flavor? Try a filling like cannoli cream, fresh strawberry, vanilla custard, chocolate pudding, raspberry, and many others.
Then we get to our favorite part – the frosting. Our creamy and fluffy buttercream is our most popular icing. It’s made in our stores using a Publix-exclusive recipe that calls for real butter and sugar. Fudge, cream cheese, vanilla or chocolate whipped cream are among other alternatives.

Customers recognize and appreciate the Publix bakery’s delectable cakes with buttercream frosting. But what about the embellishments that make our cakes some of the most visually appealing delicacies available? Our cake decorators actually put the icing on the cake! We were able to learn more about this career and what it takes to work as a Publix cake designer.
Cake Decorator Tasks
Our cake designers are recognized for creating some of the most gorgeous cakes that fulfill every demand for special events and weddings. However, the job entails more than just creating the perfect cake design.
Without the right equipment, decorators cannot create flowers or cake borders! They are in charge of making sure there is adequate frosting, decorating equipment, and other supplies on hand. When supplies must be ordered, they engage with management to ensure that the necessary materials are always on hand.
As you can expect, our bakeries receive dozens of requests for personalized cakes each week! Every day, our cake decorators arrive prepared to work in a fast-paced workplace and with a sense of urgency to keep up with the high demand. They labor long days that generally begin before the sun rises to guarantee that each cake fulfills the expectations of the consumer.
Cake decorators must whip up icing recipes and color combinations while adhering to Publix’s high standards and comprehensive instructions on particular techniques to decorate, in addition to decorating and stocking essential products and tools. The important thing is to be uniform across all stores.
This is not a stance that can be mastered overnight. Cake designers must be able to think outside the box (of the cake). They act as subject area specialists while assisting clients in bringing their cake visions to reality! Cake decorators must have the following skills:
- Organizational abilities
- Time management abilities
- Communication abilities
- Creativity
- Customer service abilities
How to Become a Cake Decorator
Do you want to be a cake decorator? All Publix decorators must have at least one year of experience as a Publix decorator apprentice or similar employment experience. You don’t have to be a Publix associate to be recruited as a decorator apprentice, but our baking team suggests starting as a bakery clerk and then moving up to the decorator post. This helps you to learn from your coworkers and peers.
Decorating is a difficult process! Publix cake decorators are continuously learning and experimenting with new ideas. Our best advise to anyone interested in this career is to use free internet resources and to observe and learn from those who are presently in the position.
